Yemina Colmone is a contemporary artist whose work explores the space between what we see and what we feel.

Her work moves between people, places, her Jewish Romani culture, food, animals, memory, and the small objects of everyday life. On the surface, these subjects can look unrelated. But she is interested in the same thing within each of them: the invisible meaning we attach to the world around us.

A place can become longing. A meal can become home. An animal can become safety. A face can hold an emotion we have never been able to name.

Through saturated color, expressive markings, symbolism, and abstraction, Yemina paints beyond the literal subject and into its emotional life.

Sometimes that means exploring identity, grief, loneliness, tenderness, or belonging. Other times, it means finding significance in something wonderfully ordinary: a familiar dish, a drink shared, a street remembered, a ritual repeated.

At the heart of her work is recognition: that unexpected moment when something outside of us reveals something within us.

“I want my paintings to invite that moment of discovery. To make someone stop and think, ‘I know that feeling’. Or even, ‘I never realized that meant so much to me.’”

Because the things we surround ourselves with are rarely just things. The places we miss, the food that comforts us, the creatures we love, the traditions we carry, and the feelings we struggle to name all become pieces of how we understand ourselves.
